I had the pleasure of photographing Sydney & Eric last weekend. When I first met them, I could tell by the way they looked at each other that they were so happy and in love – which is such an amazing thing to be able to witness! Most people aren’t used to having their photos taken though, and it’s my job to make them feel comfortable, confident, and capture moments that really reflect the client’s personality, style, and make them shine. While posing works at times, I’ve found that directing works much better.
With couples, I often like to give them activities to do – like whisper something crazy into the other’s ear, touch his/her face, dance (yes, actually dance!) and spin her/dip her, stuff like that! I think a lot of clients are caught off guard but the reaction you get while they are going through the action is priceless, and often so precious – they’re so focused on the task that they almost forget you are there.
I’m so lucky to be able to capture moments like these.
